Obituary For Benny Dean

Ben Dean passed away peacefully at home on May 21, 2022 two months before his 103rd birthday. He was born to Lonnie and Gertrude Dean on July 14, 1919 and was preceded in death by his parents, brother Bill and his wife of 68 years, Elsina.

He attended Pigeon Creek School and then Sutter Creek High School. Ben was also a member of the Jackson Druids, a semi-pro baseball team in the late 1940s. His first job was as a Cat skinner for Caldor Railroad. He also worked for California Department of Forestry before going into the logging business with his dad. He started and ran Aukum Ready Mix for several years before going to work for Wolin & Sons until he retired in 1985.

An avid hunter he enjoyed traveling to Idaho with Elsina to hunt with his son Jim as well as hunting local areas with son Kenny and other family and friends. His knowledge of local history going back more than 50 years will be missed by everyone who knew him and liked to sit and listen to a good story about hunting and growing up around Mt. Aukum.

He is survived by his 5 children: Bonnie, Kenny (Carroll) with his first wife Ann; Linda (Joe), Jim and Marianne (Russ) with his second wife Elsina; 10 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

The Schauf family sends their heartfelt condolences to your family. George Robinson was our Uncle on our mother's side. We all remember Ben and Elsina visiting George and Ann at their house in Carmichael, lots of laughing and stories. Our Grandmother Mabel was Gert's sister.

Ben "Brownie" Dean. What a guy. We loved to tease each other. He worked with Mike for many years. One of my many memories was when we went to Christmas Party for Wolin's at Jackson Rancheria. Served nice dinner and beautiful dessert. Ben said Where is the ice cream. I went to waitress and told her. She came and brought Ben a dish of ice cream. He had the biggest grin. Yes he ate it all. Loved that man and Elsina too. Condolences to Bonnie, Kenny, Jimmy, Linda and Marianne ❤️❤️
