Obituary For Carolyn Jeanne Hess

Carolyn Hess passed away peacefully in her sleep on the morning of May 14, 2022, at the age of 49. Carolyn lived in Amador County her entire life, dedicating herself to making the world a better place through her work with both people and animals. She was a kind and loving friend to everyone she met and brought laughter to every situation.
Carolyn worked for 25 years at the ARC of Amador and Calaveras counties. She was a great support to the people the ARC served, always patient and kind no matter the situation. She was an innovative Safety Office and kept the organization closely linked to the local fire departments and Office of Emergency Services. She was also the driving force behind the AR Creations Art Show and fundraiser, coming up with the name and helping to showcase art created by people with developmental disabilities. She was also instrumental in welcoming the Journey of Hope coast to coast cycling group, making their stop in Amador County memorable and fun.
Carolyn was also a very talented, award-winning photographer, showcasing her love of the ocean, nature, and dogs. She took trips to the ocean and her beloved Bodega Bay every chance she could and took the time to introduce others to the ocean as well. She also had an innate ability to communicate with dogs at a deep level and used this ability to teach others how to work with their dogs, holding weekly dog training classes for years. Carolyn will be deeply missed by all her family and friends and leaves a big hole in all their lives.
She is survived by her parents Dick and Jeanne Hess of Sutter Creek, and her brothers Jerry (Karen) Unser, John (Shauna) Unser, and Richard (Diana) Hess. She is also survived by the nieces and nephews she loved so much Carrie, Mikelle, Loni, Ava, and Parker.

I am heartbroken to learn of Carolyn's death. She was so wonderful & caring & had a smile that lite up her face. She was so kind & loving to my disabled daughter Missy. After my husband Jerry developed Alzheimers she would visit with him in the car before the Rec Program for our daughter. She took the time to chat with him & bring him joy. My deepest sympathy to her family. With love, Mary & Missy Welshans

Hi Jeanne, this is Jose (Jose and Angie, you remember me?). Angie just informed me that Carolyn had passed away. I am so sorry you lost you loving daughter, I truly am. I remember, many years ago, a lunch we had at your house, I remember her goofy and joyful smile, it was a summer day in Amador County, all was well. But we have the faith that we will all be reunited when the Time comes, and so you will see your loving Carolyn again. For now, I know, there is pain and loss, so I want you to know I am sitting here, in Portugal, right now, taking a moment to sit with you and your family, in that pain and loss, and praying that the Lord will give you the strength to make it through this terrible time. Your friend, Jose Valente.

Dick and Jeannie and family. How sad I am to learn of your daughter's death. Stay strong and take care of yourselves. Cherish the memories. Jim and Jan Harris (I worked at the mill with you two in 1965 and saw Jeannie recently at the post office).
