Obituary For Kenneth Owen Anderson

Kenneth Owen Anderson passed Tuesday, July 5, 2022, in Jackson, CA at the age of 82. He was born in Westport, KY on November 16, 1939, a son of the late Lois Helen (Garrett) and Howard O. Anderson.

Ken is survived by his wife of 45 years, Kay Odell Anderson of Pine Grove, CA; a son, Howard (Susan) Anderson of Siler City, NC; a daughter, Kathryn (Scott) Priller of Elkridge, MD; and 5 grandchildren, Travis, Jacob, Rachel, Isabel, and Walter.

Ken spent his childhood years moving with his family from Kentucky to Pennsylvania to Illinois, settling in California in 1958. He attended La Habra High School and graduated in 1963 from Cal Poly Pomona with bachelors’ degrees in Electronic Engineering and Mathematics. After graduation he married Susan, his former wife, in 1964. They lived in San Jose with their 2 children where he worked for Hewlett Packard and Philco Ford. In 1974 Ken met his wife, Kay, while working at Philco. Ken and Kay married in 1977. From 1982-1984 the two moved to England while working with Ford Aerospace. During their time there they enjoyed traveling throughout Europe. Ken continued to work in his field for 30 years; he retired from Lockheed Martin.

From the age of 12, Ken was active in the Amateur Radio Community. He was an active member in the Northern California DX Club, Northern California DX Foundation, and Amador County Amateur Radio Club. He was instrumental in founding and serving with the Northern California Contest Club and Mother Lode DX /Contest Club. He was also a lifetime member of the American Radio Relay League serving as West Coast Associate Director of the DX Advisory Committee and received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the MLDX/CC. As Ken would say, “Radio is.”

Ken will be remembered by his family as a kind and generous man, always putting his family first. He loved spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. One of the greatest gifts he gave to them is the love of family, good food and traveling. His spirit will forever be in their hearts and will be dearly missed by all of them.

At the family’s request there will be no services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to: The AARL Foundation Scholarship in Memory of Ken Anderson - K6TA

Condolences to Kay from Dennis and Norma King. I first met Ken at HP in 1967 where we worked together with many other hams (including W6OAT). Ken was always a very knowledgeable person and top notch ham.

We knew and truly enjoyed Ken and Kay through the Amador Amateur Radio Club. Our love and condolences go out to the Anderson family. One of my (kc6zwv-Meredith) best memories of Ken was when he asked me if I 'knew how to read and write' and when I answered 'of course I do!!' he replied 'GOOD !! Then you are now the secretary!" I was honored to fill the position and remained club secretary for a few years. Ken had a smile, a laugh and a way to catch your ear with great info. and stories of Aruba and Ham radio stations, as well as local radio doings. Kay we love you and are sad and sorry for your loss.

Beautiful tribute. Wish I had met him and learned more about his life from Ky to Cali. His life's memories will be carried on in infinity and with love by his children and grandchildren. 🙏 Helen Dellheim
