Obituary of Marianna Sotherden

Marianna Robbins Sotherden passed away on Saturday, October 29, 2022, in Ione, CA at the age of 89 years old. She was born in Deering, Missouri in June 1933, daughter of Alta Ferguson and Claude Robbins. Marianna is survived by her daughters Anita (Marty) Ferdani of Pine Grove, CA and Robin Beshers of Ukiah, CA; a brother Bud Robbins of Oregon. She is also survived by grandchildren; Jessica Jensen and Christina Jensen, Rebecca Cribbs and Andrew Ferdani; six great-grandchildren and she had 13 nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by brothers Odell, Tom and Bob Robbins. Marianna is also survived by her devoted and loving partner of 33 years, Doyal Mathis, and his three daughters and two sons. Marianna moved from Missouri to Dewey, Oklahoma during her senior year of high school and graduated there in 1951. In 1953, she married Lloyd Beshers. They started their family and followed her brothers to Santa Rosa, CA in 1963. In 1973, they moved to Amador County. She enjoyed camping, sewing and baking desserts from the recipes she collected. She loved all of her extended family dearly and loved visits and family reunions. Two of her grandchildren were members of a local band, "FreeZeout" and she was their biggest fan and promoter. She enjoyed volunteering at Ione's polling place. As a young woman, she worked in the offices of three petroleum companies and later as a school secretary and in the Vocational Agricultural Office at Oklahoma State University. Once in Amador County, she worked at Preston School of Industry in various positions for 23 years until retirement.
