Casey Casagrande

Obituary of Casey John Casagrande

Casey Casagrande passed away unexpectedly in his home on Monday, August 29, 2022. Casey John Casagrande was born on January 2, 1951, to Jack and Elsie Casagrande. Casey was raised in Sutter Creek, the third of seven children. As a child, Casey loved baseball, reading comics, and working in his grandfather's Rexall Pharmacy in Jackson. Growing up in a large and loud family, Casey never suffered from boredom. The whole town of Sutter Creek knew to be on their toes when Casey and his friends were running around. While in high school, Casey started managing his little brother Kelley's baseball team. He went on to coach many nephews, his own children, and maybe most rewardingly, his grandchildren. Casey's love and knowledge of sports had an impact on the many kids that he coached. He graduated from Amador High School in 1969 and went on to earn his degree in Biological Science from UC Davis. Casey found his passion for teaching when he started tutoring while attending UC Davis and went on to teach Science and Math at Independence High School for 38 years. Casey began dating Debbie Bush during their Sophomore year at Amador High School in 1967. Casey married his one love, Debbie, in 1973. They raised their two children Melissa and Joshua in Sutter Creek. While Melissa and Josh kept them more than busy, Casey and Debbie still managed to spend many great times with their large extended family and friends. Casey and Debbie were always wonderful entertainers, and one would never have an empty glass in their home. They were a couple that was relied upon for support, advice, or just a laugh. Most of all, Casey and Debbie were best friends. They shared every milestone, great joy, and hard loss and had an enduring love for one another. Every summer Casey and Debbie would take the kids to the family cabin in Lake Tahoe. They spent lots of time on the beach, going out to eat, and having fun with each other. These trips were special to Casey. They were much like the trips he took with his parents, siblings, and cousins as a child. Casey and Debbie also loved traveling and took many wonderful trips with their lifelong friends. Whether it was touring the Jameson Factory in Ireland, eating and drinking their way through Italy, or cruising Alaska, a great time was always had. Casey's greatest joy was being Papa to his five grandchildren. Casey spent every moment possible with his grandchildren who all loved to play and joke with their Papa. He never missed any of the kids' games and was always standing away from the crowd hollering advice or support. He never missed a dance recital even if he had to stay for three straight shows. Papa's kids were everything to him. He was the foundation of the family and will be missed by all of those he came in touch with. Casey is preceded in death by his parents Jack and Elsie, and his brothers Gary and Kelley Casagrande. Casey is survived by his wife of 48 years, Debbie Casagrande, his daughter Melissa and husband Clayton Buchanan, his son, Joshua and wife Sarah Casagrande, brothers Artie and David, sister Tammy and husband Michael Newbert, sister Shari, sisters-in-law Isabelle and Rita Casagrande, Kimberly Parker, mother-in-law Lois Facianni and grandchildren Kyleigh, Camille, William, Maren, and Landon. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 10, 2022 at St. Katharine Drexel Parish in Jackson, CA.
