Obituary of Penny Joy Smallfield

Penelope Joy (Parker) Smallfield was born on October 2, 1950 in Placerville, CA to Joyce (Walker) and Vernon Parker. Penny spent her early years in Diamond Springs, CA. In 1959 her father got a job at the new plywood plant that was built at the Winton Sawmill in Martell and the family moved to Sutter Creek. Penny went to Sutter Creek Elementary and on to Amador High School, from where she graduated in 1968. After high school she went to work at Bank of America in Jackson. While at the Bank she met her future husband, Doug Smallfield. They wed on June 30, 1973 at the Catholic Church in Sutter Creek. Penny and Doug made their home in Sutter Creek where they have lived for 49 years. In 1979 Penny welcomed a son, Scott, and quit the Bank to become a full time Mother. When Scott started School in 1985 Penny started volunteering in his class. She went on to be an Aide at the School, eventually working her way up to Administrative Assistant at the Elementary School up until her retirement in 2015. When Penny wasn't working, she enjoyed needle work, gardening, and spending time in the mountains, which meant a lot of fishing, which she loved, and especially her family. She also liked to go to Reno and pull a handle, go to the shows, and enjoy the fine restaurants available. Penny is survived by her husband, of 49 years, Doug, son Scott (Kristie), granddaughter Savannah and Brother Craig Parker (Sharon) and his family. She was preceded in death by her Mother Joyce and Father Vernon. Friends and family are invited to attend a visitation from 3:00p.m. to 6:00p.m. at Daneri Mortuary, Jackson, CA on Friday, July 22, 2022. A funeral service will be held 11:00a.m. on Monday, July 25, 2022 at Daneri Mortuary, Jackson, CA. Followed by a graveside service at Sunset View Cemetery, Jackson, CA. In lieu of flowers, contribution may be made to Sutter Amador Hospital Foundation Board at 200 Mission Blvd, Jackson, Ca. 95642, or the charity of your choice, in Penny's name.
