Obituary of Tammy L Freytag

Tammy L. Freytag-Commisso passed away Saturday, May 28, 2022 in Sutter Creek, CA. She was born in Rochester, NY on October 4, 1965, the daughter of Barbara and the late Richard Freytag. Tammy is survived by her husband, Joel Commisso of Sutter Creek, CA.; mother, Barbara; brother, Chris; sister-in-law, Christine; her pet parrots, Olive, and Sam; Penelope the deer; many turkeys and hundreds of hummingbirds. Tammy received her bachelor's degree in Biology from UC Santa Barbara after which she worked for Lockheed as a science cargo specialist contracted to NASA for several space shuttle launches and retrievals. Tammy returned and completed her education with a PHD in Nutritional Biochemistry at UC Davis. At which time she met Joel, her husband and friend of 30 years. She worked as a Human Nutrition Biochemist for 17 years at the Western Human Nutrition Research Center of the USDA in Davis, CA. She and her husband moved from Davis to Amador County in 2001 where they enjoyed the true community spirit of this area. They lived in a trailer as they built their home (making her a saint as the locals know). Tammy especially loved the wildlife, bird watching, the serenity of her surroundings, and was always working on a project to benefit her animal friends. Tammy would want everyone to be happy and to be kind to everyone, both two legged and four, and of course winged - something our society needs to rediscover. Contributions may be made in Tammy's name to a wildlife charity of your choice. A private service for close family will be conducted.
