Obituary of Ruby Elizabeth Dougherty

Ruby Elizabeth Dougherty passed away Thursday, April 30, 2009 in Jackson, Ca at the age of 87 years. She was born September 2, 1921 to Roy and Ruby (Eastwood) Coalwell in Inglewood, Ca. where she grew up and graduated from high school. Ruby met Robert Dougherty in Paso Robles soon after graduation and fell in love. They were married December 24, 1941 before Robert joined the service. The newlyweds moved to Feather Falls, Ca. in the mid 1940's until 1965 when they moved to Columbia Falls, MT. Ruby drove a cab, delivered meals and transported shut-ins to the senior center for lunch, was an auxiliary member of the VFW, and past president of TOPS while in MT. Robert and Ruby moved to Magalia, Ca. in 1990 and Ruby again was a past president of the Magalia chapter of TOPS. She enjoyed being with people, playing card games, bingo, and family gatherings. Ruby's family enjoyed her great sense of humor. She was an avid reader, enjoyed embroidery and creating yard art. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy A. and Gregg Johnson of Jackson, Ca., Janie C. and Jeff Williams of Roseville, Ca., Peggy S. and Pete Pitre of San Diego, Ca.; son and daughter in-law, Robert "Bing" E. and Barbara Dougherty of Magalia, Ca.; brother, Elbert Coalwell of Mo.; sister, Bobbie Baucher of Grass Valley, Ca.; 12 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Robert Dougherty in February 2006; brother, Leighton; sisters, Helen, Mary, Ella, and Thelma. Friends are invited to attend a visitation Monday, May 4 from 2:00 to 5:00 P.M. at Daneri Mortuary in Jackson, Ca. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 5 at 10:30 A.M. at Daneri Mortuary Chapel in Jackson, Ca. Interment will be in the Garden of Valor at Sunset View Cemetery in Jackson, Ca.
