Obituary of Gary Eugene Sims

On April 21, 2023, Gary Eugene Sims' loving husband and father of two passed away at the age of 72.

Gary was born on September 9, 1950 in Wilmington, North Carolina, to Margaret (Clark) and Robert Noble. Gary was raised by his mother and step father Robert Sims along with his brothers Daniel and Jeffery in Glendale, California.  In 1970 and 1973 his daughters Alicia and Leah were born; with first wife Lisa (Stewart) Sims.  Gary married his current wife Sandra (Johnson) Sims in 1988.

 In 1973 Gary joined the ranks of the Los Angeles Police Department as a policeman and was promoted to Detective III working Burglary Auto Theft Division, Commercial Auto Theft Section (BADCATS).  He retired in 1998 and moved to Amador County.  That year he went to work for the Amador County District Attorney’s Office as an investigator. Following his retirement there, he was appointed Deputy Chief of the Jackson Rancheria, Department of Health and Public Safety.  He also worked part time as an investigator for the Calaveras District Attorney’s Office.  He worked in law enforcement for a total of forty years.  Gary was known for his work ethics and a man of great integrity.

Gary’s passion was fishing, working on his property and playing with his dogs.  Gary was very loyal to his friends. When a friend needed help Gary was there, always willing to lend a hand.

Gary was preceded in death by his father, Robert and his mother, Margaret.  He is survived by his wife Sandra, his two daughters, Alicia Sims and her husband John Guardino of Sebastopol, Ca, and Leah Sims and her husband Thomas Brown of Norfolk, Va, his brothers Daniel and his wife Nora of Sedona, Az and Jeffery and his wife Jeanne of Morgan, Ut, and several cousins, nieces and a nephew, numerous friends and fishing buddies.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 3, 2023 at Daneri Mortuary, 415 Broadway, Jackson, at 1:00 p.m.  With interment at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Wilmington, NC, May 8, 2023 at 2:30 p.m.
