Obituary of Feliz Guthrie

Feliz Guthrie, a long time Amador County resident, passed away March 28, 2024. She was born in Iowa and lived and attended school in Winona, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her parents Harold N. and Helen Guthrie, her brother, Harold “Bruce” Guthrie and her long-time friend and partner, Alicia Gonzalez.

 

She was a beloved teacher of Spanish and English at Amador High School until her retirement.

 

A passionate horsewoman, she always had a couple of horses. What she loved the most was to be riding around Lake Camanche and the hills of Amador County.

 

She was a poet and the author of several books on Scotland and the historical Mother Lode. “The Last Californian” is the tale set in Amador County during the gold rush era.

 

She was the co-owner of the Creekside Antique Co-op and Alicia’s Antiques in the Gallino Building in downtown Sutter Creek for more than forty years.   

 

She is survived by her Ranch Forman, Dennis Davis and wife, Mary and al the Co-op dealers who lovingly called her “The Boss.”

A celebration of life will be planned at a future date. Donations can be made in her honor to Hospice of Amador and Calaveras, CART (Amador County Animal Response Team) or APAL Humane Society of Amador.
