Harold Timmer

Obituary of Harold L Timmer

Harold L. Timmer of Ione, California, passed away at his home on Wednesday, October 12, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. He was 87. Harold was a longtime resident of Ione and a founding member of the Preston Castle Preservation Society. An avid golfer, Harold was an original member of the Castle Oaks senior golf group and was their oldest active player. He golfed 18 holes three days a week until his cancer diagnosis earlier this year. Harold loved bowling, too, and was a formidable opponent in any league match. A proud veteran, Harold spent 12 years in the military, serving in both the Air Force and Army. His work as a crewman on P51 Mustangs launched a lifelong love of military aircraft. After his military service, Harold was hired by IBM, where he worked for 30 years, most of that time in San Jose, California. A small-town boy at heart, Harold moved to Ione in 1994. Harold was born in Waverly, Iowa, and will be laid to rest in his hometown of Parkersburg. He is preceded in death by his first wife Beverly and son Michael; father, John Timmer; mother and stepfather Minnie and Herb Blohm; and half-brother Jimmy. He leaves behind his wife Bobbie, sister Nadine Kono, niece Bobbi O'Brien, great-niece Keelin (Aaron) Meyer, half-sisters Jackie and Judy Timmer; stepdaughters Reesa (James) Staten and Becky McCoy, along with many friends and extended family who will miss him dearly. A Celebration of Life will be announced in the coming weeks at a location in Amador County. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations in Harold's name to the American Cancer Society.
