Obituary of Richard "Dick" Allen

Richard "Dick" Allen passed away on Friday, February 25, 2011 at his home in the Willow Creek area. He was born in Sacramento, CA on November 30, 1933 to Emmett Ellsworth Allen and Ann Vicini Allen, both of whom preceded him in death, and he lived all his life in Amador County. Dick was a fourth generation native, his great grandfather, Thomas Allen, arrived in Amador County in 1850 and engaged in mining along the Arkansas Creek. Dick's boyhood home was on Highway 16 at the present ranch of his cousin, Gordon Vicini. He attended the Willow Springs School, at times riding a horse or his bicycle to school. In his high school years he attended Sutter Creek High School, participating in sports, football being his favorite. Dick was an active member of the Future Farmers of America raising and showing sheep. He was the recipient of the State Farmer award. Upon graduation Dick received his draft notice and served in Korea in the 8th Army Engineer Corp. After his discharge Amador County drew him home and he worked for many years in earth moving with heavy equipment. Due to his continued interest in agriculture Dick engaged in cattle raising for the remainder of his life. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and belonged to the National Rifle Association. On February 11, 1961 he married Judy Mace. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary just two weeks prior to his death. Dick is survived by his wife, Judy; son, Christopher (Kelly); granddaughter, Kasie Stinhilver; brothers, Laverne Allen and Doug Allen (Shaun). Friends are invited to attend a memorial service Wednesday, March 9 at 11:00 A.M. at Daneri Mortuary Chapel in Jackson. Inurnment will be in the Ione Public Cemetery in Ione.
