Obituary of Orvil Baker

Orvil Baker passed away Thursday, October 21, 2010 in Jackson, CA at the age of 86. Orvil (Papa) was born March 2, 1924 to Verdo and Dolly Baker of Fanshaw, OK. In 1942 he married the love of his life, Juanita Baker of Bokoshe, OK. Saw mills, falling timber, and logging were a way of life in the Baker family. Orvil and his brother Barney owned and operated Baker Bro.'s Trucking founded in 1967. Orvil resided in Plymouth for 25 years before moving to Ione in 1972. Hunting, fishing, coaching baseball, and annual pilgrmages to Oklahoma characterized his early life. Later in life, hunting, fishing, annual pilgrimages to Oklahoma, Dillan Beach, Quartzite, AZ and any other place his motor home would take him was the norm. He liked to laugh, joke around, and visit with just about anyone. He never knew a stranger, but his grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his pride and joy. He was a father, a grandfather, an uncle, a brother, a friend: He was a great man. He is survived by his daughter Glenda Tillison and husband Mike of Cameron Park, his sister Jessie Hoyle of Plymouth, Sister-in-law Joyce Baker of Ione; Grandchildren Bill Baker and wife Karen of Ione, David Mann and wife Victoria of Cameron Park, Kim Johnson and husband Tony of Idaho, Tom Baker and wife Jen of Ione, and Cheryl Clements of Pennsylvania; Great-grandchildren: Mara and Lauren Baker, Rachelle and David Mann, Jake and Ariel Johnson, Brook, Tyler, Brianna and Thomas Baker as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Juanita Baker in 1997 and son Jack Baker in 1994.
