Obituary of Shirley Longmire

Shirley Laverne Clark Longmire was born on February 24, 1935 in Laurel, Mississippi, and died peacefully in her sleep on August 17, 2010 in Jackson, California, near her home of 20 years. Shirley is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ray Curtis Longmire, her sons Wayne Allen Longmire and Roger Clay Longmire, as well as her parents, Vernon Julius Clark and Vallie Leah Windham Clark as well as five brothers and sisters. She is survived by her son and daughter in law, Byran and Lorraine Longmire of Santa Clara, California and her daughter and son in law, Diana and John Trapani of Salinas, California. Shirley also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Andrew John Trapani, Robert Calvin Longmire, and Brian Michael Longmire, Connor Joseph Longmire and Grant Clark Longmire; great grandson Orion (Longmire) Bauer, as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She is also survived by her brother Lester Julius Clark of Checotah, OK. Shirley and Ray were married in 1954 in Reno, Nevada, and spent the years of their early marriage in San Luis Obispo and Sunnyvale, A. They lived in Littleton, CO and La Porte, Texas. They soon settled in Santa Clara, where they lived for many years while raising their family. In 1988, Shirley and Ray retired and moved to Pioneer, California, where they spent their golden years in the foothills of the beautiful Sierra Nevada Mountains. They were active in the SIRs RV Club, through which they cultivated many friendships, and traveled with extensively over the years. They also enjoyed numerous friendships made through Ray's involvement in Mace Meadows Golf and Country Club. For several years, many of these friends joined Shirley and Ray on their annual winter journey to Hemet, California. Shirley loved reading, nature and the outdoors. One favorite pastime was reading while sitting under the redwoods, by a lake or in the shadow of Blue Mountain. Her passion was her family and friends. Shirley's life was centered on the activities and accomplishments of her family; she instilled integrity, honesty and love in them, as well as, in all who encountered her. Shirley will be remembered for her warm and loving acceptance of everyone and her fierce loyalty to family. She will also be lovingly remembered, and sorely missed, for her talents as a fine Southern cook and hostess. A memorial service will be held on Saturday August 21 at 2:30pm at Daneri Mortuary on 415 Broadway in Jackson Ca.
