Mavis Fregulia

Obituary of Mavis M. Fregulia

We lost Mavis Minch Fregulia on August 16, 2010. Mavis was born on January 7, 1917, in Minneapolis, Kansas, the only child of Charles S. Minch and Bessie Carter. She grew up in Beloit, Kansas, where her father conducted the Vienna Restaurant and Bakery. Mavis attended Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas, graduating in 1941 with a Bachelors Degree in Music. During the early years of World War II, Henry Fregulia of Jackson, California, was stationed in Salina, Kansas. There the couple met. After the war, Henry came back to claim his bride. They were married on February 12, 1946, in Beloit. Their honeymoon was spent sharing a seat on a crowded train bound for California. The educated "city girl" came to live in an old ranch house with no electricity or indoor plumbing! But Mavis, always with a positive outlook, took it in stride. Mavis was soon taking an active role in her community. She taught music at Milligan School and gave private lessons. She was the first president of the Hospital Auxiliary when the new county hospital was built in the mid-1950s. She was always an energetic member of her Church. Later in life she was a tour hostess for Amador Stage Lines and other bus lines, traveling all over the western states. Mavis was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Fregulia, in 1987, and by her brothers-in-law, Mike and Jim Fregulia. She is survived by her daughter, Reba Casey, niece, Carolyn Fregulia, grand-children, Victoria and Enrico Canessa, and cousin, Stephen Rupert of Kansas. Funeral services were held August 20, 2010 at Daneri Mortuary in Jackson. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Amador & Calaveras Counties, P.O. Box 595, Jackson, CA 95642.
