Obituary of Ronald Baker

Ronald "Ron" A. Baker passed away Saturday, August 14, 2010 in Jackson, CA at the age of 85 years. He was born June 22, 1925 to Jack and Lillian (Constable) Baker in Harrow, England. Ron was educated at Swindon Engineering College and Southampton University in England. During WWII he was the youngest Chief Engineer in the British War Department Fleet. His engineering expertise took him to the U.S.A., Mexico, Hong Kong, Germany, Italy, and Macedonia, the latter under the auspices of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). Ron was active in volunteer ocean rescue work in Santa Cruz, CA. He retired from the business of manufacturing engineering in 1986 with many patents to his credit. After retirement he was able to pursue his lifelong interest in deep water sailing. He is survived by his wife, Judith Evelyn Schipper Baker of Pine Grove; daughter, Penelope Jefferson of CA; son, Simon Baker of ID; step-sons, Dan Nolting and Craig Nolting both of Pioneer; step-daughter, Amy Davitte of WA; 9 grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild. At the family's request there will be no services. His cremains will be scattered at sea.
