Obituary of William "Bill" Allan Shingler

William "Bill" Allan Shingler passed away Tuesday, July 6, 2010 in Jackson at the age of 74 years after a long battle with Leukemia. He was born August 31, 1935 in Buffalo, New York. He left Buffalo at the age of 18 and moved to California. On June 28, 1955 he realized his dream of becoming a Marine and joined the United States Marine Corp. serving until Nov. of 1959. The year was 1961 when Bill met Reathel Bolin on a blind date arranged by friends. They became inseparable and were married on June 23, 1962 in Burbank. Bill worked for Ryder Truck Rentals as a heavy-duty equipment mechanic for 39 years before retiring. Bill was a homebody and loved working around the house but his greatest joy came from serving those in need. He was very generous with his heart and his time. He volunteered with Hospice for nine years. He was the first to shake your hand, pat you on the back, and give you his unforgettable smile when you entered the Nazarene church on Sunday mornings. He truly enjoyed serving as a greeter and his love of God came shining through him. He is survived by his wife of 48 years and best friend, Reathel; son, Shawn Shingler and his wife, Shere of Paradise; daughter, Kelli Young and her husband, John of Orangevale; grandchildren, Brooke, Morgan, Krystal, Jacob, Will, Madilynn, Jaclynn; brothers, Robert Shingler of Oregon and Albert Shingler of New York.
