Dennis Voight

Obituary of Dennis Richard Voight

Dennis Voight was born on July 3, 1953 in Oakland, CA. At 7 weeks old he was adopted by the

most loving parents, Richard, and Claire Voight. He spent his happy childhood in Montclair, CA

with siblings Debby, Julie, and Brad. Passions of his youth were racing homing pigeons and

motorcycles! He loved adventure and explored the U.S. on his Harley with his best buddy, Lon,

and others. At 18 years old, Den committed his life to Christ and jumped into service leading

youth groups including repeated backpacking trips to Zion, the Grand Canyon, and driving

busloads of kids on Tahoe ski trips. He attended Cal Poly SLO where he earned a BS in Biology

which led him to his first career in building reservoirs in the Napa area. It was then he learned to

fly, earning his pilot’s license and enjoying his small Piper aircraft for several years. At age 26 he became a general contractor, and he started his business, SkyWest Construction, building custom homes in the east bay area. After a short whirlwind romance, he married Nancy Lucas in

1980 and so began 43 years of a loving, happy marriage. In 1985 they found a beautiful 18

acres in Pine Grove and moved there to build their home and raise their 4 children, Jason, Luke,

Katie, and Cassie, in a simpler more rural environment. He loved the outdoors and was always

on the move, even though he was the most gentle and laid back person. Dennis had a great

laugh and sense of humor and never took himself too seriously. In 1992, after an accident

where he broke his back, he switched careers and began his business as a manufacturer’s rep

for various agricultural supply lines, always enjoying meeting new people and traveling about.

He was a good businessman, most known for his integrity. His work, his family, and his Lord

were his passions. He served on many church boards through the years and quietly supported

various ministries to further the gospel. He most enjoyed hanging out with his family, in the front

yard hammock with his girls, on the baseball field with his boys, or planning great annual

vacations for the whole clan to explore God’s beautiful creation. Additional joys came to the

family when Luke married Becca Reed and Cassie married Stephen Havill. These unions

produced his greatest delights, his grandchildren— Lyzee, Zeke, and Peyton. He was a gentle,

silly, playful Papa! Dennis was humble and kind, faithful and steady, and a friend to everyone

he met. The last 10 years of his life he courageously battled Alzheimers disease. He was a

champ through it all, keeping his sparkle and smile to the end. Surrounded by his family, he

finally entered into rest and the loving arms of his Lord on April 21, 2023. He was a devoted

husband and father and a great brother and friend. He knew how to love well, and he himself

was well loved. He will be missed!

He is survived by his wife Nancy, his children, Jason, Luke (Becca), Katie, Cassie (Stephen),

and his grandchildren, Lyzee, Zeke, and Peyton, as well as his siblings Julie Doty, Debby Jenny,

and Brad Voight. Memorial donations can be made to Sports Friends Malawi Project at https://sports-friends.org/give/

“Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, nor stand in the path of

sinners, nor sit in the seat of scoffers! But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he

mediates day and night. And he will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of living water,

which yields its fruit in its season, and it’s leaf does not wither; and whatever he does

prospers.” Psalm 1:1-3.
