Obituary of Adrian Jack Crownover

Adrian “Jack” Crownover passed away peacefully in his home in Pine Grove, CA on August 7, 2023, surrounded by his family.

He was born in Morrilton, Arkansas in 1946, and was the fourth child to his parents Ovie and Adrian “Jake”, with three older sisters: Francis, Rita “Jane”, and Billie. The family moved to California in 1947.

Jack went to school in Sacramento and eventually made his way to the Bay Area, where he found his lifelong passion for music. He excelled at guitar and bass guitar and played in several rock bands in the late 60’s and 70’s as part of the burgeoning Bay Area music scene. While there, he met his future wife, Valdean. They married in 1970 and relocated to Pine Grove to start a family in the early 80’s. They had two sons, Martin, and Spencer.

In this second phase of his life, Jack continued playing music around the Sacramento area and began gravitating towards Blues.

He took on numerous roles locally, and many knew him in different ways: he was a sound technician for school events, fairs, and other gatherings. He was a Little League coach, sharing his knowledge of baseball and sense of fairness with a generation of young athletes. He helped produce a variety of programs for the local TV and radio stations. He volunteered at school to help children learn to read.

Jack was a loving father who cared deeply for his sons, and he took great pride in helping to raise them. He loved spending time outside with them, teaching them how to work on things, carving trails in the hills, stargazing, and playing games. This was the happiest period of his life.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Ovie and Jake, and his sister, Jane. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Valdean, their sons, Martin and Spencer, his daughter-in-law, Yesel, and his grandchildren, James, Winnie, and Max.

His strength, curiosity, and dependable nature will be remembered and carried on by all who knew him, and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
