Obituary of Manuel M Ramirez Jr.

Manuel M. Ramirez, Jr., passed away on August 5, 2023, at the age of 87.  He was born on February 21, 1936, in San Andreas to Manuel and Alberta Ramirez.  Manuel was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle.  In his retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, watching his great-grandchildren play sports and traveling in his RV. 

Manuel graduated from Calaveras High School in 1955.  After proudly serving his country in the United States Army, he worked for Winkler Brothers for 35 years.   While working at Winkler Brothers he hauled cement for several major infrastructure projects throughout Northern California, including the Shasta and Oroville Dams.  Manuel spent the final years of his trucking career working for Amador Transit Mix.

In 1962 he married Dorothy Atwood, and the couple welcomed their only son, Manuel Michael Ramirez.  Manuel spent many happy hours taking his family in the truck with him.  Manuel is survived by his son, Manuel Michael Ramirez of Pine Grove and his son’s girlfriend, Julie Chapman of Pioneer, grandchildren Jess Ramirez and Jacob Ramirez and great-grandchildren Lily, Jayden, and Kaleb Ramirez, all of Valley Springs.  He is also survived by brothers and sisters, Alice Machuca, Rosemary Mattock and Gloria Ramirez of Stockton, Anne Barratt of Sacramento, John Ramirez of San Andreas, and Albert Ramirez of Northglenn, Colorado, numerous nieces and nephews from his large extended family, and his companion, Tina Moore of Mokelumne Hill.  He was preceded in death by Dorothy Ramirez, his beloved wife of 46 years, and by his sister, Rita Yarasca of Vacaville, California.  He will be deeply missed by all.

Donations in Manuel’s memory to the Disabled American Veterans (www.dav.org) are welcome and appreciated.  Graveside military services and committal will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 25, 2023, at Sunset View Cemetery in Jackson, followed by a reception at the Laughton Ranch in Jackson.
