Obituary of John G Bowling

John G. Bowling was born in Union City, New Jersey on February 25, 1930, to Constantine and Maria Bowling.  He served in the United States Air Force as a bombardier on a B-36 bomber during the Korean War. He was married to Jean Bowling from 1958 until her passing on November 11, 2019.  

After graduation from the University of Santa Clara, he served as the Executive Director of the Housing Authority in Pleasanton, CA, Vancouver, WA and for Butte County. Prior to retirement, John and Jean lived for 13 years in Paradise, CA. John and Jean were founding members of the Paradise Youth Soccer league. John was also instrumental in bringing high school soccer to Butte County.

 After retirement John and Jean moved to the family farm in Shenandoah Valley, outside of Plymouth, CA. They grew Zinfandel grapes, walnuts, and prunes. They were long-time members of St. Mary of the Mountains Catholic Church in Plymouth.  John was a Past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, a lector at Mass, and volunteered with St. Vincent De Paul and the Interfaith Food Bank.  

John is survived by his children, Lynne Bowling, Mike Bowling (Laurie), Chris Bowling (Mary), Laurie Root (Scot), and Daniel Bowling (Michelle-deceased). Grandfather to Camryn Bowling, Giannni Bowling, Luke Rebar-Bowling, Matthew Rebar-Bowling, Madalyn Oclon (EJ), and Kathryn Root.  John is great grandfather to Avery Jean Oclon. John is also survived by his brother Charlie Bowling (Marie) and sister-in-law Beth Bowling. His sister Helen (Bill) and brother William preceded him in death.

A public viewing will be held at Daneri Mortuary in Jackson, CA on Thursday, November 2nd from 4-6pm.  A Rosary will follow at 6pm.  The Funeral Mass will be held at St. Katherine Drexel Catholic Church in Martell, CA on November 3rd at 10 am. Graveside services will be held after the Funeral Mass at Sunset View Cemetery.
