Obituary of G Pearl Campbell

Pearl Campbell, a beloved wife, mother, grandma, great-grandma, sister, and friend passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at the age of 84. Pearl was born in Ione, California on July 8, 1939, to Rinaldo and Grace Cuneo. She grew up in Mokelumne Hill and graduated from Calaveras High School in 1957.  Pearl, a great beauty, was twice a contestant in the Miss California beauty pageant as Miss Calaveras in 1956 and Miss Amador in 1957. On New Years Eve 1956, she met the love of her life, Colin “Soup” Campbell, whom she married on December 27, 1958. Pearl and Colin were married for almost 55 years before Colin’s passing in 2013. Once married, Pearl moved across the river to Amador County where she and Colin raised three girls and she lived for the next 66 years. Marriage and motherhood brought her many joys including sewing matching outfits for herself and daughters, waterskiing, entertaining, and being a Girl Scout leader. Pearl’s interests in later years included Jazzercise, motor homing, flower gardening, reading, extensively decorating for Christmas, and adding sparkle and bedazzle to any garment she could get her hands on. Pearl worked for the City of Sutter Creek for over 20 years, first as a secretary, then City Clerk and City Manager. Pearl was preceded in death by her husband, Colin (1936-2013), and their eldest daughter, Debbie Campbell (1959-2021). She is survived by her daughters, Vicki Campbell, and Christy Campbell (Korey Wells); grandchildren, Keely Polley (Cody Polley), Tessa Dahl (Bodie Bell), Bryce Plinski, and Makenna Garrett (David Garrett); six great grandchildren; brother, Ren Cuneo; sister-in-law, Joan Campbell; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Pearl remained a great beauty with a dazzling and, at times, mischievous smile to the end.

Memorial contributions in Pearl’s name may be made to the American Heart Association. Friends are invited to attend a graveside service on Thursday, January 11, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at the Sunset View Cemetery in Jackson.
