Obituary of Vera Vukovich Kambur

Vera Kambur 88, died peacefully at home, Sunday, March 2024 after a prolonged illness.

She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Paul, her son, Paul Jr. (wife Annie), daughter Kristina (husband Khaled), and seven grandchildren, Dimitri, Katrina, Tarek, Elias, Karim, Nicole, and Michael James.

Vera was born and raised in San Francisco. She is preceded in death by sister, Danica, and brother Svetozar, as well as her parents, Mirko and Gospava Vukovich of Montenegro. Being raised in the Serbian Orthodox faith, she was an active member in the church choir, as well as the folklore dance and singing groups.

Shortly after their marriage and birth of their children, they moved abroad, and lived 18 years in Libya, The Netherlands, England, and Spain. In 1986, she and Paul returned to the US and settled in Sutter Creek.

In Sutter Creek, she served as President, and later board member of the Saint Sava Mission Corporation. She spearheaded fundraising and was a passionate volunteer for Serbian Summer Camps throughout the Western United States. She also enjoyed a second career as a realtor in Amador County.

Vera was fiercely proud of her Serbian heritage and was completely fluent in Serbo-Croatian. She possessed an archival knowledge of the history of the Serbia community of Northern California.

Above all else, Vera was a gourmet cook and baker and relished hosting Serbian Christmas, serving her signature Roast Pork, and baking hundreds of Candy Cane cookies. She was an exceptional daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She will be forever missed.

Funeral services will take place at St. John’s Serbian Orthodox Church in San Francisco, followed by a burial at the Serbian Orthodox Cemetery in Colma.
