Obituary of Betty LaVerne Thomas

Betty LaVerne Thomas passed away March 20, 2024, in Jackson, CA at the age of 95. She was born on September 20, 1928, in Angels Camp, California to James and Martha (Inks) Chappell.

Betty attended Angels Camp grammar school and graduated from Bret Harte Union High School in 1946. She was very active in sports and loved playing tennis. Several years later after graduating high school she met and married her husband, Jack Thomas. She then started nursing school and graduated in 1964, when she pursued her dream at becoming a surgical nurse.

Betty enjoyed being with her family. Taking family rides up country in the fall to see the colors and going to Carson Valley Inn for lunch or dinner.

She enjoyed spending time in her backyard by the pool watching all the grandkids swim. Betty and her husband Jack were avid bowlers for over 50 years.

Betty is survived by her children, Linda Mae Rampleburg of Ione, CA, LaVonna Marie Campbell of OK, Michael John Rankin of Jackson, CA, Joseph George Thomas of Mokelumne Hill, CA; brother, LeRoy Chappell; grandchildren, John, Darren, Laurinda, Priscilla, Erica, Melanie, Shawn, Joseph, Justin; and 12 great grandchildren; and 11 great great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack in 2016, brother, Clayton Chappell, and sister, Alberta Castle.

Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service on Friday, March 29, 2024, 11:00 a.m. at Daneri Mortuary in Jackson, CA. Interment will take place in the Garden of Valor at Sunset View Cemetery in Jackson, CA to follow.
